Panther tank in North Africa

Panther tank in North Africa

Brand: Airfix

Name of the vehicle:Panzerkampfwagen V Panther

Scale: 1:76

War: WW2

Front: North Africa (1942-1943)

The Panther tank was created in 1942 by Germany during World War II to counter the Russian T-34 tank. It was one of the best medium tanks created in the War. However, their numbers were very low compared to the T-34s and Shermans that were mass-produced. When the war ended in 1945, more than five thousand units were produced.

The Airfix Panther was the first model I built. And although the model was entertaining to put together, it had two problems.

One was that the tracks of the tank were made of rubber and it took a lot of time to put them on the tank. My dad and I had to do cuts and put glue on them. However, the manual said that they simply had to be joined together without glue. The problem was that the tracks were too small to be able to stick to each other and therefore they did not fit.

Here’s how the tracks ended after the building

Another thing I didn’t like very much was that the tank as I said in the title is set on the North African front with the Afrika Korps. But although the tank was in North Africa, it did not have much action at the front and used to break easily. What I would have liked was for the tank to be set on another front. Like France and the Eastern Front. Or that at least if it was set in North Africa at least they could put some more details such as a sticker of the Afrika Korps logo. Because although it looks from North Africa, it looks very generic.

But besides that, the model was good. I recommend this kit for someone who wants to have a good time with a tank without much detail. So, if you’re a person looking for a tank without a lot of detail and historical context and want to have a good time, this can be a very good option. But watch out for those rubber tracks that will be hard to put on!

Here’s two images of the finished vehicle
This image shows the vehicle beside some Afrika Korps infantry of Airfix. As you can see, infantry looks great with the Panther. The infantry are also 1:76 scale just like the tank.
